I've been there too, feeling like you're in a rut that you're never going to escape, and it's horrible, but the good news is, you don't have to stay stuck any longer and I want to show you to how to lift yourself out of a rut and to never let yourself fall back into it again, arming you with the tools to light a motivational fire under your ass and start improving your life today.
Find out your 'Why'
Knowing why you want to get out of this rut is such an important factor that not many people ever give thought to, and this is why people stay in the same rut for so long sometimes without ever testing their limits and breaking out. If you take care of your 'why' then the 'how' nearly always takes care of itself. It is much easier to be pulled towards your 'why' than to be constantly pushing without a final destination in mind, Your 'why' should get you fired up and excited and make you want to work hard and make sacrifices in order to achieve it. My 'why' is to inspire and change the lives of millions of people, and the thought of this gets me all excited and full of energy and then when times get hard, I just have to focus on my 'Why' and i'm given all the reasons I need to pull myself out of the rut. Choose your big, long term goal and then write lots of reasons why achieving/reaching it would be so good.
It's so common for someone who is absolutely amazing to fall into a rut and to start believing that they are hopeless and that they are no good and they are in the worst possible mind state, if they were to look at their past, they would realise they've done lots of amazing things that they can be proud of and realise that they are a great person, and it's much easier to build and grow when you realise you've done it before and your brain has evidence that you can do it rather than it being stuck in the rut of “I'm useless, always have been and always will be.”
Theres no harm at all in liking and loving yourself, so be proud of yourself, celebrate your wins and make lists of everything good you've done so that you never forget. Life is hard when your worst enemy is the man in the mirror.
People really underestimate the power of journaling, if you wrote a little bit everyday on your 'why' and what it means to you, there would be no way you could fall into a rut, each time you focus on it, your connection to it becomes stronger which is basically your motivation in everyday life so once you've chosen your 'Why', answer journal questions about it everyday, what are ways to take action towards it? How could you use the people around you to accelerate your success? What are things that are currently holding you back? By answering these questions on a regular occurrence, you will be stunned at the answers you have inside you that you didn't even know.
Self Love + Phone List
I strongly believe that nearly all the problems that the world faces stem from lack of self esteem and self love, which I find really upsetting, because everyone in the world could have pages and pages of reasons why they are amazing and deserve to be liked and loved, yet so many amazing people go through life hating themselves and only focusing on everything that is WRONG with them. There is a really quick self esteem hack which has made massive improvements in my own life, and this is setting up a notepad (paper or phone) and then writing down reasons why you love yourself. Nothing complicated. Write down more reasons as they come to you, add it to the list, review the list regularly and build up your self love and positive feelings towards yourself. If you don't love yourself, how is anyone else going to love you?
Make a list of 5 people who inspire you
This might seem a bit random at first, but give it a chance, it can seriously get you making leaps and bounds towards your goals. Start off by making a list of 5 people who inspire you, it doesn't matter who, famous or not famous, successful or not successful, male or female. Once you have made a list, start writing down reasons they inspire you, certain characteristics and personality traits that they have and then start working out ways you can start implementing parts of them into your own life to start improving. The best thing is, you have 5 people to choose from so you can pick the best bits from each one start really get you excited. By doing this, you'll realise what it is that you need to do to improve your life, where your going wrong and the possibilities of what is really possible if you work hard. If you want to really reap the full benefits of this exercise, watch interviews, have conversations with and study these people so you can get inside their brain and understand how they work. One day, people will be looking up to you as an inspiration and trying to emulate the life you've created...but only if you get yourself out of this rut and start to...
So many times a day, I hear the people around me moaning about self-inflicted problems that are ruining their life, yet they are doing nothing to change the situation, apart from carrying on the behaviour and habits that are causing the problem in the first place, only making the problem worse. Once you take responsibility, you start to realise that nearly all the problems and situations in your life can be fixed by YOU, and if you're anything like me, you find this quite scary but also inspiring. Whatever daily habits, routines and schedules you are following have created your life, so if you're not happy with an area of your life, all you need to do is change any of your daily habits, routines and schedules to start seeing a difference, you want to see a bigger change? Make bigger changes to your habits etc.
Hopefully now you understand that falling into depression or into a rut in your life is normally down to your view of the world and not doing the right things for your brain or body everyday and over time you just lose your motivation for life, but I hope that you now have everything you need to either not let it happen to you, or to pull yourself out of it if you do unfortunately have to experience the lows of life, but there is always a home for you here and we're only ever a message away if you need our advice or experience on anything.
Here is an action plan for you to go away with and start TAKING ACTION towards improving your life.
